El documental recorre su valor ecológico y cultural, y la importancia de comprender y conservar este árbol y los ecosistemas que sostiene.</p> <p>Nuestra colaboración se centró en <strong>identificar los patógenos fúngicos</strong> asociados al daño foliar. En conjunto con el equipo de investigación, <strong>recolectamos muestras</strong> en terreno, <strong>cultivamos los hongos</strong> en el laboratorio, <strong>secuenciamos</strong> tanto los hongos como las araucarias, y realizamos <strong>ensayos de inoculación</strong> para recapitular los signos y síntomas de la enfermedad y así establecer la causalidad del patógeno.</p> <p><strong>Ver el documental →</strong> <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdFli-7HBP8">Pewén dirá la tierra (YouTube)</a></p> <hr> <h2 id="english">English</h2> <p>We were glad to take part in <strong>“Pewén dirá la tierra”</strong>, a documentary about the <strong>monkey-puzzle tree (<em>Araucaria araucana</em>)</strong> —the <em>pewén</em>, a sacred tree for the Mapuche-Pewenche people— produced by <strong>Duoc UC A Puertas Abiertas</strong>.</p> <p><em>Araucaria araucana</em> is a long-lived, emblematic conifer of the Andean-Patagonian forests of southern Chile and Argentina, now listed as <strong>Endangered</strong> and threatened by wildfire, climate change, and <strong>foliar damage</strong>. The film explores its ecological and cultural significance, and why understanding and conserving this tree —and the ecosystems it sustains— matters.</p> <p>Our collaboration focused on <strong>identifying the fungal pathogens</strong> linked to the foliar damage. Together with the research team, we <strong>collected field samples</strong>, <strong>cultured the fungi</strong> in the lab, <strong>sequenced</strong> both the fungi and the Araucarias, and ran <strong>inoculation assays</strong> to recapitulate the disease signs and symptoms —establishing the pathogen&rsquo;s causal role.</p> <p><strong>Watch the documentary →</strong> <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdFli-7HBP8">Pewén dirá la tierra (YouTube)</a></p>
